When surfing the net and videos on YouTube, we may come across some movies that we would like to keep for ourselves without having to always get online and connect with the popular video search engine. With this in mind, I have provided an easy-to-use step by step method below that will allow you to save a copy of your favorite YouTube videos.
To view these videos after we have downloaded them, you will need to download and install VLC Player, which can be accessed here. I will also be using Mozilla Firefox as my browser for this tutorial.
Step 1: Access Your Video
For this first step, access YouTube in your browser and bring up the favorite video that you would like to download. While viewing the video that you want to download, add the YouTube video to your browser’s favorites/bookmarks section, along with the following code in the Location field.
javascript:window.open(‘http://youtube.com/get_video?video_id=’+window.location.href.split(‘?’)[1].match(/v=([^(\&|$)]*)/)[1]+’&t=’+document.getElementById(‘movie_player’).src.match(/t=([^(\&|$)]*)/)[1]);
Step 2: Download The Video
While staying on the YouTube page of the video you are watching, a download window will appear that will ask you how you would like to download the file “get_video”. When prompted, click on the “Save file” option and click “OK”. Your favorite YouTube video will automatically be downloaded to your hard drive.
Step 3: Watch Your Video
Using the VLC Player software that I have mentioned above, click on the Media drop-down menu and select the “Open File” option. A new window will open asking you to select the file that you want to watch. Navigate to your Downloads subfolder under My Documents, and for VLC Player to see the “get_video” file, enter *. in the file name field. When the file name appears, select the “get_video” file and click “Open”. Your video will now appear for you in VLC Player.
